How to Have Maximum Kingdom Impact
Character is who we are. Competence is what we can do. Being effective as a disciple and leader requires growing in BOTH areas. Take some time to reflect on and discuss your growth in these two areas:
Draw:
A box and divide it into four squares. Write “character” at the top and “competence” on the side, with both “low” and “high” being represented.

Explain:
Discuss what happens when someone is trying to serve the Lord in each of these four instances.
- High competence but low character = a dangerous disciple/leader who needs to be held accountable.
- High character but low competence = an emerging disciple/leader who needs to develop skills.
- Low character and low competence = a disqualified disciple/leader who needs accountability and opportunities to learn.
- High character and high competence = an effective, impactful disciple/leader who needs to multiply him/herself in others.
Competency + Character = Kingdom Impact
“And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them” (Psalm 78:72).
Discuss:
- What character qualities would you like to grow in? For example, love for God, love for others, humility, integrity, servant spirit, teachability, responsibility, patience, persistence.
- What skills would you like to develop as a leader or in your ministry area?
