Following Jesus isn’t a one-time decision—it’s a lifelong journey.
Scripture gives us a simple pattern for that journey, especially in passages like Matthew 4:19: “Follow me… and I will make you… fishers of men.”
So how do we follow Jesus?
We describe that journey in four movements:

1. DISCOVER
This is where it begins - encountering Jesus and the good news of His Kingdom. You’re learning who He is… and who you are because of Him. And the truth is, we never outgrow this stage—we keep discovering Him for the rest of our lives.
2. DEVELOP
Here you begin building a lifestyle of listening to and following Jesus. This is where real transformation happens—your thinking changes, your habits change, your life starts to reflect Him.
3. Die & Live
(BAPTISM) At some point, following Jesus becomes personal and decisive. You stop being your own boss and surrender to Him as King. This is marked by baptism—a moment of dying to your old life and being raised into a new one.
4. DUPLICATE
Jesus never calls us to follow Him alone. Every disciple is sent to help others discover and follow Him too—right where you already live, work, and relate.
So Where Does This Card Come In?
When you walk into the auditorium at the Community Commons, you’ll see a wall that says “How do I follow Jesus?” with three sections: Discover, Develop, Duplicate.
This card is a simple but powerful way to respond.
First—write your name on the blank side (or front of new cards).
Then place your card on the wall in the stage that best represents where you are right now:
- Still exploring Jesus? → Discover
- Actively learning to follow Him? → Develop
- Baptized and living on mission? → Duplicate
- No pressure. Just honesty.
But that’s only half the card.
Flip it over—and this is where it gets real.
On the back, you’ll write the names of people in your life who don’t yet know Jesus. We call that your mission field—your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, classmates. These aren’t projects. These are people you already care about.
You’ll also:
- Circle whether this is a primary or secondary mission field
- Write in the names of others from our church who are in that same space—your teammates
Because we don’t do this alone—we go together.
Here’s the invitation:
Bring your card back and pin it on the wall. If you're in the "Duplicate" stage and know your mission field, you will flip the card and pin it on the "Discover" stage because that's where those people you listed are at.
It’s a simple step—but it’s powerful. It helps you clarify:
- Where am I right now?
- What’s my next step?
- Who has God already placed in my life?
Our prayer is to see hundreds of people living this out—each one with a clear mission field, each one investing in real people, each one carrying the good news of Jesus into everyday life.
And we’re here to help you do it.
Because this is what we’re about—a growing community of people being changed by Jesus and helping others experience that same life.
How to Follow Jesus
Following Jesus can sound intimidating, but it doesn’t have
to be complicated or confusing.
