Discipling: Asking Someone to Disciple You
1. Think about people you know and consider more spiritually mature. Ask yourself:
2. Pray about it—ask God for his wisdom and guidance about who to ask.
3. Ask that person if he/she is interested and available to help you grow spiritually or be a discipleship mentor. If you're not sure how to begin that conversation, take a look at some of the “Conversation Starters” below.
4. Discuss what kind of commitment it would take. A successful relationship should involve:
- A commitment from the mentor
- To schedule time with you on a regular basis (for example, one hour every two weeks)
- To pray for and with you
- To listen and not judge
- To encourage and challenge you
- To seek answers if needed
- A commitment from you
- To be faithful to the appointments
- To be ready and willing to share and listen
- To be teachable and willing to change
- To think and pray about what is discussed
